RUBY SHORT McKIM DISPLAY CASE Photo courtesy of Melinda Crowley Long Beach, WA
"In the display case are two unfinished quilts of mine. One is the Bird Life quilt, blue and white; I purchased the blocks and set it. It still needs to be sandwiched and quilted. I purchased the Farm Life Quilt top. It is nicely embroidered and has the 'horn of plenty' quilt design already traced on the quilt. Some of the embroidered blocks are done on white feedsack and the blue set squares are of a fine material. I thought at first it might be a kit purchased from McKim Studios, but with the feedsack material in it I'm not sure. I am in the process of quilting it."

"I purchased the blocks for the Three Little Pigs quilt and then set and quilted them. It was a pitiful little quilt which I bought for a pattern. But after I got it home, I tore it apart and reset it. The blocks were made with feedsack tea towels. And the reason I know they were tea towels is because hems were still on the blocks. Then I added the white feedsack fabric (some my mother-in-law had saved) to the borders and binding."

ORIENTAL POPPY QUILT Photo courtesy of Melinda Crowley Long Beach, WA
"The Poppy quilt was made by Randy O'Phelan. She designed it from the book, 101 Patchwork Patterns. Her first quilt, mid-60s. She used black fabric instead of green. She could not find a poppy leaf green, which she described as having gray tones. Her mother had an oriental black lacquer bow front chest, and from that she chose black to go with the orange color."
