– Kimport Dolls Map –
[ circa 1935 ]
This
unique poster print is reproduced from the original Kimport Dolls Map
which resides in the McKim Family Collection. The original was done in
pen and ink and hand painted in watercolor by Aileen Franklin, a very
dear friend of Grammy's who worked at both McKim Studios and Kimport
Dolls.
The original painting hung in the
Chrisman-Sawyer Bank in Independence for many years, with thumbtacks of
all things! Thank goodness it was rescued from the dumpster by the
McKim family after the Kimport auction in the mid 1980s. Nearly 80
years old, this wonderful piece of art has been on quite a journey…
Be sure to check out the close-ups, along with the wonderful art a bit
of wear and tear from the map's incredible journey shows up as well.
All the more endearing, I say…what a story it could tell!
